THE 8 STAGES OF DEVELOPMENT
'ERIK ERIKSON' (RIGHT)
Using Erik Erikson stages of development as a model for the stages of thinking and learning for children, you will notice in each stage there are opportunities for positive ego development as well as deficits in one's character, not only before a child reaches his 20's, but throughout life.
The 8 Development Stages are key to understanding DEPENDENCY AND THESE DEFICITS:
What a child or teen learns during these first stages creates the unconscious program.
For example…when a child's exploration of sexuality goes beyond discovery to routine self-comforting because of the lack of human care, there is potential for addiction.
THE SAME IS TRUE WITH DEPENDENCY...
OVER RESPONISE-ABLITY becomes confused with comforting and nurturing.
For example, a lonely and abused 12-year-old finds comfort in TAKING ON ADULT RESPONSE-ABLITYS. More and more, he or she uses that for solace. As years go by, the type of acting out may change.
It can ALSO involve OTHER DEPENDENT BEHAVIORS AND THINKING...
Calling your health care provider or a mental health professional if you or your adolescent has symptoms of dependent personality disorder.
The way to resolve your DEPENDENCY is to engage in an in-depth process of emotional healing and self-nurturing psychotherapy.
